Cork Prison Dangerously Overcrowded

The Inspector of Prisons has warned that he'll call for the closure of Cork Prison if the replacement jail doesn't go ahead or is delayed. Judge Michael Reilly says the current prison is dangerously overcrowded. The Irish prison service will build a new facility in the carpark adjacent to the old jail, with a capacity for 300 inmates. And Judge Reilly says if the new building, which is set to be commissioned in 2016, doesn't go ahead he will call for the closure of the existing facility.
