Cork rail passengers to face travel disruptions

Cork Rail passengers will face disruption next month, as SIPTU workers plan to introduce Labour Court recommended cost saving measures - including pay cuts. The strike action comes in response to Irish Rail's decision to implement new cost saving measures, as recommended by the Labour Court. The company says it will introduce temporary pay cuts from August 24th - ranging from a cut of 1.7 per cent for staff earning up to 56,000 euro per year - to over 6 per cent for those earning more than 100,000 euro. The one day work stoppage will take place on Monday, August 25th. Speaking to RedFM News, SIPTU's Owen Reidy says that Irish Rail has already shed 2,000 workers in the past 5 years and that employees have worked hard to maintain services. Click PLAY to hear audio
