Cork Resident Involved In Ethiopian Plane Crash

Irish engineer Michael Ryan who died in the Ethiopian Airlines crash lived on Popes Quay in Cork city centre with his wife and two young children

An Irishman's among 157 people who've been killed in a plane crash in Ethiopia.

He's been named locally as Michael Ryan who's originally from County Clare and had been living in Cork City with his family for a number of years- he'd been working for the UN World Food Programme.

He had also been very involved in the Save Cork City campaign against the proposed OPW flood relief plan for Cork

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar says Michael Ryan was doing "life-changing work" and has expressed his sympathies to the engineer's friends, family and colleagues.

The Ethiopian Airlines flight was bound for the Kenyan capital, Nairobi - but went down minutes after take-off.

The cause hasn't been established yet
