Cork South West TD: Major Problem With Postal System, With Some People Waiting A Week For Letters

That's according to Cork South West TD, Michael Collins

He made the comments as the Irish Postmasters Union has said that from July first, many postmaster-operated offices face a reduction of around 20 per cent in government or state payments, which they believe would leave many Post Offices untenable.

The Rural Independent Group has called for immediate state intervention to prevent the closure of post offices across the country.

Speaking to RedFM News, Independent TD for Cork South West, Michael Collins says in some cases post is going undelivered.:

"We have also a crisis in relation to the postal service and we have to fight for continuation of our post people coming to our doors. But also, people posting letters are waiting a week to get a letter now. Since the system ... since they moved from it being sorted in the local county, and in the local offices. It is being sorted in Portlaoise. But some people could post a letter to a local town or village, which might be a mile or two away, but it mightn't get to the person for a week or a week and a half. And in a lot of cases lately, it's not getting there at all."
