Cork Taxi Driver Hijacked

A taxi driver has received serious facial injuries after his car was hijacked in Cork. The taxi driver who was in his 70s picked up two passenger at Dillons Cross at around 1.30am. He was en route to the city centre when the passengers attacked him on the Carrigohane Road early this morning. The injured driver was beaten, left on the side of the road and his car was stolen. The stolen taxi was pursued by another taxi and later crashed at Lower Killeens a short time later. Gardai in Gurranabraher have arrested one man in his thirites. One of the drivers fled the scene. The taxi driver was taken to Cork University Hospital with facial injuries but has since been released.
