Cork Taxi driver speaks out after attack
A taxi driver who was beaten and robbed over the weekend says he's lucky he wasn't killed. John Ford picked up two passengers just before 5 o'clock on Friday morning on Patrick St. After reaching the address they gave him in Ballyvolane they beat him and stole €100 in cash as well his vehicle. The 58-year-old raised the alarm and was taken to Cork University Hospital where he was treated for a fractured eye socket, bruising and shock. Gardaí have appealed to anyone with information to contact them and are currently examining CCTV footage. Meanwhile the incident has sparked calls for government funding to protect taxi drivers by means of in car CCTV and perspex glass separators.
