Cork TD says government must support Cork Airport for at least more three years

Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire today met with Minister for Aviation Hildegarde Naughton to discuss additional funding for the airport.

Cork Airport was the fastest growing airport in Ireland before the pandemic, however passenger numbers have dropped by 97% in the first quarter of this year due to the pandemic.

Speaking to RedFM News after the meeting, Cork Sinn Féin TD Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire says the airport will need time to recover:

"We also need to protect the livelihoods and incomes of the workers who work directly for the airport and who work for industries that depend directly on the airport. So the EWSS, the PUP, all the income supports that are there, they need to be continued to an extent that allows them to work and to be supported over the course of the next few years, again, to ensure that people's livelihoods are protected and that those industries that rely on the airport and in the airport can recover."
