Cork Teachers Say Poor Pay Is Forcing Them To Emigrate

Delegates at the TUI Conference in Cork say the profession is losing hundreds of newly qualified teachers because of low pay
Young Teachers across Cork city and county are being forced to emigrate as they cannot make a decent living at home.
That’s according to TUI members attending their annual conference at the Clayton Silversprings Hotel today, who say the profession is losing hundreds of newly qualified teachers each year because of pay issues
Teachers who graduated after 2011 are currently paid 10% less than their colleagues for doing the same job.
The TUI will be raising the issue with the Minister for Education this afternoon when Richard Bruton addresses the 500 strong delegation.
Speaking to RedFM News Tony Rosborough who teaches at St Aidan’s school in Dublin Hill says concerns have been expressed about the future of teaching as a profession:
