Cork transatlantic flights look set to be delayed until next year

Management at Cork Airport say the planned transatlantic flights are not likely to take off until next year. 

The Cork to Boston Route was due to be up and running in May but there's been stiff opposition to the plans.

Four US congressmen introduced a bill challenging the terms of the EU/US Open Skies agreement which lays down a process for new airlines to operate on the transatlantic corridor.

A decision on the granting of a US license to the airline planning to operate the route is still pending however it's hoped  the recent intervention of the EU Transport Commissioner will get the route over the line.

Speaking to RedFM News Managing Director at Cork Airport Niall (Neil) MacCarthy says there is a need for continued pressure on the US Governement to issue the licence:
