Cork University Hospital acute psychiatric unit behind schedule

The opening of a €15 million acute psychiatric unit on the grounds of the CUH is now now almost two months behind schedule. It comes after staff rejected proposals aimed at securing the transfer over health and safety issues. The main area of concern for both the Psychiatric Nurses Association and Siptu is staffing levels for the 50-bed unit. Attempts to find a solution to the row have been ongoing at the Labour Relations Commissions however a proposal to add five nurses to the original recommendation of 51 was rejected by SIPTU members.
