Cork woman (52) who fraudulently claimed €69,000 in carers allowance remanded on bail

Mary O'Callaghan of Woodvale Road, Beaumont, Blackrock will appear at Cork District Court again in June.
The court heard Mary O'Callaghan was living in London while claiming carers allowance for looking after her mother who lived in Cork.
The Irish Examiner reports Garda John Dineen said O'Callaghan used the money to holiday in places such as Barbados and Morocco.
The money was claimed between 2013 and 2019 before the Department of Social Welfare realised she was not living in the country and began an investigation.
Judge Seán Ó Donnabháin heard that O'Callaghan had co-operated with Gardaí and had gathered €10,000 compensation.
Judge Ó Donnabháinn said he wanted to know what O'Callaghan had proposed in terms of further compensation and was told that she is hoping to put "significant sums together" in London as Covid restrictions ease.
O'Callaghan is due in court again on June 16th.
