Cork's LGBT awareness week launched today

The rainbow flag will fly over City Hall again today, to mark the beginning of LGBT Awareness Week.
This year the focus will be on actions to promote LGBT equality across Cork City and is organised by an Interagency Steering Group comprised of the City Council, the HSE, the Gardai and CESCA Equality Alliance among others.
The Lord Mayor Cllr Des Cahill will formally launch the LGBT Awareness Week this afternoon at 5pm.
The first time the flag was ever flown from a public building in Ireland, was in Cork in 2014, ahead of the passing of the same-sex marriage referendum the following year.
Speaking to RedFM News Chair of the LGBT steering group Siobhan O'Dowd says the week- long event celebrates Cork as a diverse city:
