Lord Mayor Cllr Tony Fitzgerald is looking for procedures for choosing recipients to be introduced
The issue has been raised by Councillors several times over the years with calls for the framework for choosing recipients of the honour to be overhauled.
There has also been claims that the award is given out too often
The Lord Mayor says in his year in office he has given out several awards to people and it's been his privilege to do so but he has now asked the incoming council to put protocols in place around the Freedom of the City
