The event organised by Dowtcha Puppets will take place as part of the Puppets Picnic in Fitzgeralds Park.
The current record stands at 363 puppets, and was set in Townsville in Australia.
Today the world record attempt will take place at 1.30 pm by the Pavilion Stand in Fitzgeralds Park.
Sock puppets will be made during the day, but people are welcome to bring their own sock puppets from home.
