Council issues clarification on the funding secured for the purchase of the docks at Passage West

The Council says under the funding criteria the money could only be used for the purchase of the docks and so had to be returned when they were taken off the market

Cork County Council has issued a clarification on the funding secured for the purchase of  Victoria Docks at Passage West

The statement issued to RedFM News comes after local TD's questioned why the €1.9 million grant for the proposed redevelopment of the docks was returned once the dockyard was taken off the market in 2019

The Council says the funding was awarded for the purposes of the acquisition of the Victoria Docks however after the awarding of the funding it became clear that the owners did not wish to dispose of the property to Cork County Council.

The Council was informed that the funds could not be used for any other purpose so the funds were never actually made available for use by the Council .

The statement concludes that the Council have an ongoing interest in acquiring the docks and will continue to explore all funding streams made available by Governmental and State Agencies for the purposes of rejuvenating town centres in-line with Project Ireland 2040.
