County Council pushes for Cork airport independence
Cork County Council are hoping to apply pressure on the transport Minister and the Dublin Airport Authority to rid Cork Airport of the €113m debt that it's servicing from the building of the new terminal. Concerns have been expressed about a fall in traffic at the airport and the loss of several routes operated by Aer Lingus and Ryanair in recent months. Overall passenger numbers at Cork airport fell by nearly 5% last year attributing to the problem is that the airport is not operating on a level playing field with other airports such as Shannon airport who gained independence from the DAA. AUDIO: Speaking to RedFM News Marketing Manager at Cork Airport Kevin Cullinane says what's needed is a coordinated marketing push in the region and a fund to support this.
