County Council says report by the McKinnon Review on a boundary extension did not go far enough

The Council has submitted a proposal for a significant extension to the Cork City Council

At a special meeting this morning, the local authority called for an alternative extension of the city boundary, increasing the size of Cork city to nearly two thirds the size of the functional area of Dublin City Council.

The County council issued a new proposal for the extension to include areas such as Docklands South and North, Mahon, Blackpool, Tramore Road, Kinsale Road and Tivoli, and would increase the city's population by 31%.

The extension of the city councils area of jurisdiction would represent a transfer of commercial rates and Local Property Tax base to the value of over €16 million.
