County Councillor Threatens To take To The Streets Over City Boundary Extension

Over 600 people have signed a "Keep Ballincollig County" campaign


A county councillor say they're willing to take to the streets and march if the government presses ahead with the proposed city boundary extension. 

Over 600 people have signed a "Keep Ballincollig County" campaign in protest at the proposals contained in the McKinnon Review which recommends extending the city boundary to include areas such as Ballincollig, Cork Airport, Glanmire and Carrigtwohill in the city's remit. 

The campaign has escalated in recent days with a door-to-door canvass in the town's housing estates and the introduction of posters.

Among the concerns of those in Ballincollig is the impact the plans will have on rates and on funding for initiatives like Tidy Towns. 

Speaking to RedFM News Ballincollig based Cllr Derry Canty says the County Council's alternative boundary extension proposal has been shot down but they won't be bullied into accepting the proposals in the McKinnon review:
