County Mayor Calls For An Bord Pleanala To Consider Spike Island's New Status Ahead Of Decision On Incinerator

An Bord Pleanala must take Spike Island's new status in Europe into account before granting permission to a proposed incinerator in Cork Harbour.
That's according to County Mayor Cllr Declan Hurly who made the comments as the former prison scooped the top prize at the World Travel Awards in St. Petersburg officially becoming Europe's Leading Tourist Attraction for 2017.
The planning authority has already deferred a decision on the construction of the controversial incinerator at Ringaskiddy five times.
However, An Bord Pleanala says the due date for decision on the €160 million euro facility proposed by waste management company Indavar is the 27th of October.
Speaking to RedFM News Mayor Cllr Declan Hurley says it is crutial the Cork Harbour area is protected so the tourist attraction can continue to expand into the future:
