Cyber attack "a kick in the teeth" for frontline workers, says INMO

The ongoing cyber attack on the HSE is a "kick in the teeth" for front line workers who have spent over a year fighting Covid-19, according to the INMO.

The nursing union say the cyber attack on the HSE last Friday has left staff in an extremely challenging situation.

Patient files and contact details are not available to staff who have been forced to use a paper-based system for recording treatments.

Speaking to RedFM News, Liam Conway from the INMO in Cork says front line staff are doing their best to maintain a high level of patient care.

"All staff are rising to the challenge, and no better than our nurses and midwives on the frontline.

"It's causing additional workload, and obviously the primary concern is to maintain patient safety, whether you're on a medical or surgical ward, you're in an older person's service as a resident, or you're being treated in a critical care situation.

"It's had massive impacts on documentation - for example returning to a paper based system."
