Death of teenager leaves community reeling

The death of a teenage boy on the southside of the city from a suspected drug overdose has left the community reeling.

16-year-old Michael Cornacchia [Cor-nack-ia] was pronounced dead at his home in Deermount yesterday morning after his mother found him unresponsive.

A post mortem examination is being conducted at Cork University Hospital to establish the exact cause of death but Gardai have ruled out foul play.

Cllr Mick Finn who knew the victim and his family well says this latest tragedy is a "hammer blow" to the community which is already struggling to cope with a spate of suspected suicides before Christmas.
