Debenhams Workers Confident Government Will Back Motion For A Better Redundancy Deal
A Dáil debate on the dispute is taking place this evening
Dozens of former Debenhams workers are planning to march to the National Convention Centre at 8pm.
The motion in support of the workers is being brought before TDs, and is calling on them to instruct Revenue Commissions and other state agencies to put money owed to them by the liquidator towards an improved redundancy package.
Over 330 workers in Cork and 200 workers nationally lost their jobs in April when Debenhams closed 11 Irish stores, including two Cork branches on Patrick's Street and at Mahon Point Shopping Centre.
Industrial action is now in its 15th week, with workers refusing to accept the statutory minimum redundancy of two weeks per year of service.
Speaking ahead of tonight's march, former Cork Shop Steward Valerie Conlon says she expects tomorrow's vote to go in their favour:
