The €180 million project was the subject of a lengthy public hearing late last year which heard many objections about noise and diesel emissions raised by residents living along the proposed new route 

Locals say they are already suffering from excessive noise levels and are fearful of increased diesel emissions.

The engineers said "low-noise surfaces" will be put on the motorway, along the Rochestown Road, Maryborough Hill, and a number of other local roads which feed into the new motorway scheme.

However speaking to RedFM News at the time of the hearing the M28 steering  group’s Frances Murphy says it is difficult to understand how the noise levels will be reduced:
