Decision To Refuse Planning For Waste Transfer & Recycling Facility In Little Island Welcomed

The Little Island Business Association say refusing planning for the development in the Courtstown Industrial Estate is the right decision
The 95,000-tonne a year facility in Little Island had originally been granted planning permission by Cork County Council, however An Bord Plenála said that the proposed development, by Country Clean Recycling, materially contravened the 2014 Cork County Development Plan.
Michael Mulcahy of the Little Island Business Association, said it was "unacceptable" that the County Council contravened their own Development Plan and says locals are steadfast in their opposition to the facility.
Speaking to RedFM News, Michael Mulcahy says the area is just not suitable for the proposed facility:
"When Cork County Council seek to impose a development of this size of this particular recycling centre in an area like Little Island, that's not consistent with the area, it won't be accepted by the residents and it won't be accepted by the Business Association. The outcome of today's decision by An Bórd Pleanála is certainly very welcome news. We would ask Cork County Council to take serious note, because the board have said that they contravened their own County Development Plan, which I think is very unacceptable for the County Council to do."
