Decision to wind down Ulster Bank in the Republic of Ireland is expected to be made today

The Irish Times says parent company NatWest is likely to sign off on the move tonight - with an announcement due tomorrow.

Ulster Bank has seven branches in Cork and employs 2,800 staff across the country

David Hall, from the Irish Mortgage Holders Organisation, says he strongly expects NatWest to pull the plug on Ulster Bank here:

"It appears as if they're going to sell all or parts of it and exit Ireland. They have a serious problem back home in the UK, and they need to protect themselves there and we're an outlier to them, 160 years Ulster Bank have been in Ireland, there's clear indications now that they're going to announce tomorrow, exiting."
