Dell Technologies buys EMC

Dell Technologies has completed the acquisition of EMC, creating the world's largest privately-controlled technology company.

12 months ago, Dell announced it would buy the Ovens based data storage company in a deal worth an estimated $67 billion, the largest on record in the technology sector.

The deal also includes EMC's economic interest in VMWare, however the virtualisation software company will remain an independent, publicly traded company.

EMC has an Irish workforce of over 3,000, with over 2,500  based in Cork, while Dell employs over 2,300 people in Cork, Limerick and Dublin.

VMware also has more than 700 staff in Ballincollig.
