Dentists Say Crisis In Sector Affecting Patients Across Country

The Irish Dental Association is holding its AGM today to discuss a fall in the medical dental card scheme contracts
It says total spending on the scheme has dropped by over a third, from over 63 million euro in 2017 to 40 million euro last year.
Irish Dental Association Chief Executive, Fintan Hourihan says a new scheme is needed:
"The focus of today's AGM will be on assessing the problems which have emerged over the past year during the pandemic, when oral health difficulties for the population have exacerbated. We are seeing that a new scheme is particularly needed for medical card patients, and that's going to be a particular focus of today's AGM."
