The Department of Transport says Ryanair's move to withdraw its services from Cork Airport from mid - November to mid-December is not completely unexpected.
In a statement issued to RedFM News, The department says it's believed to be part of a wider move by the company to cut its capacity right across Europe over the winter season
Ryanair have confirmed that they are grounding flights at Cork Airport from November 14th until December 12th with operations to resume on the 13th of December ahead of the Christmas season.
The news came as Aer Lingus also revealed that it's to reduce it's frequency on the Cork/Heathrow route.
Speaking to RedFM News, President of Cork Chamber, Paula Cogan says the change could have an impact on the airport for up to 2 years:
