Disappointment expressed after change in plan on site of former Sextant Pub

JCD Group announced they're to scrap plans for 200 build to rent apartments as they are not financially viable
Planning permission for the apartments was granted in February 2020 and the Sextant was demolished last August.
The developers now intend to build a 16 storey office block in the car park of Carey's Tool Hire.
Cork City Historian and Councillor Kieran McCarthy told RedFM news he would have lied for the Sextant building to
have been preserved:
"It was one of the people who made a submission An Bord Pleanála on the strategic housing development, and I asked for The Sextant bar to be incorporated into the apartment block proposal, and there were other segments of that block meant to be preserved. The old terminus for the old Blackrock and Passage Railway line. But again, I mean, within weeks of the planning proposal that section was knocked."
