Douglas traders welcome new parking grace period

Traders in Douglas have welcomed the decision to introduce a 30 minute grace period for on street parking in Douglas. The decision to overhaul the current system was taken by councillors yesterday who decided against the introduction of a 'first-free hour' period, due to financial implications. Up to 3,500 fines have been issued on a yearly basis in the village since pay parking was introduced in 2012 - something which traders says has had a detrimental effect on business. Speaking to RedFM News these traders in Douglas say 30 minutes of free parking will make a huge difference to footfall. Click the PLAY button above to hear.
