Dozens turn out at City Hall to show support for medicinal cannabis campaigner Vera Twomey

All eyes are on the Dáil today as medicinal cannabis campaigner Vera Twomey is expected to arrive at government buildings after walking from Cork in protest at the rejection of her application for medicinal cannabis for her daughter Ava.

The seven-year-old suffers from a rare form of epilepsy known as Dravets syndrome and her family say she needs cannabis oil to reduce her seizures.

The Cork mother is on the final leg of her epic 290km walk to the Dail this morning and is due to arrive at the Dáil at the same time the Joint Committee on Health is due to meet with the Health Products Regulatory Authority to discuss its report on medicinal cannabis after the meeting was pushed forward.

Meanwhile Minister Simon Harris has indicated he will meet Vera upon her arrival.

The chief medical officer at the Department of Health spoke out last night and while said the Minister can provide a licence in individual cases it's dependent on the consultant overseeing the patient as they must take responsibility for monitoring the effects of the treatment over time

Dozens turned out at a vigil outside City Hall last night to show support for Vera.

They listeners explained to Cork's RedFM why they attended the vigil:
