Drop In Nursing Applications In CAO Choices

There's a significant drop in the number of students choosing to study nursing at third level.

The CAO is today announcing application data which shows which courses are the favourites among first preference selections.

Agriculture is the big winner with an increase of 17% in applications for honour degree courses or 'level 8' - however nursing is down 10%.

Mary Rose Carroll of the Cork branch of the INMO spoke to RedFM News ahead of the CAO application deadline and said she had hoped applications wouldn't be affected by the ongoing difficulties in the sectory but she wasn't holding out much hope:

Meanwhile as 30,000 nurses and midwives are on the brink of a 'work-to-rule' the INMO's Liam Doran says the drop in interest comes as no surprise to him:
