Drugs offences in the city have almost doubled in the first quarter of the year

There have been decreases in the number of public order incidents, thefts and sexual offences
The figures were released by the CSO, which says the levels of recorded crime nationally have fallen sharply during the pandemic.
There were 567 drugs offences recorded in the City Garda Division in the first three months of the year compared to 287 for the same time last year
It includes 431 incidents of the possession of drugs for personal use, up from 218.
There has been a marginal decline in the amount of public order offences from 467 in the first quarter of 2020 to 430 this year.
The number of recorded thefts from shops fell from 347 to 200, while thefts from a person went from 7 to 1.
Sexual offences fell from 43 to 39 , while there was no recorded incidents of homicide/murder/manslaughter or infanticide in the first three months of the year.
That compares to three homicides and one murder the year before.
Threats to murder increased from7 in Q1 2020 to 11 this year and there was an increase from none to one in carjackings.
