The Government says the project, demonstrates their commitment to delivering on the Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy

There's been a broad welcome to the €185m rail investment announced by the Government for Cork

The funding will be used for works to upgrade the rail line on the north side of the city and near Kent Station and will enable the opening of new stations at Blarney, Blackpool and Tivoli.

The Government says the project, demonstrates the Government's commitment to delivering on the Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy and sustainable transport alternatives for Cork City and County.

The enhanced commuter rail service will deliver the proposed transport network needed to underpin the significant population and employment growth envisaged for Cork under the National Development Plan 2040.
