€40k drugs seizure in Fermoy
Almost €40,000 worth of drugs and cash have been seized in Fermoy following a checkpoint search on the M8 motorway.
Gardaí from the divisional roads policing unit carried out the checkpoint at Strawhill yesterday afternoon.
At around 1.30pm, Garda stopped and search a car which was found to contain €31,000 in cash that had been hidden.
Both occupants of the car were brought to Fermoy Garda Station but were not arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
Shortly after 2pm Gardaí then stopped and search a second car which was found to contain €8,500 euro of suspected cocaine.
Both occupants of the car, aged in their 20s and 50s, were arrested and brought to Fermoy Garda Station. The driver of the car, man in his 20s, also failed a roadside drug test.
