EirGrid making €2.4 million available to communities in East Cork
The money will be given on a phased basis for community projects in areas the Celtic Interconnector cable will pass through.
EirGrid are also asking anyone interested in representing a community group to contact them by the 17th of May
The €1 billion plan to trade electricity between France and Ireland involves an undersea cable that will stretch from Northern France to Youghal.
Local communities have voiced concerns about the plans, most recently residents in Churchtown outside Midleton who have said they oppose plans to run the cable close to their homes due to fears about what they say are the possible health impact of electromagnetic field emissions.
