Eirgrid to contact landowners in Castlemartyr and Killeagh about cable for Celtic Interconnector project

Construction is expected to begin on the project in 2022.
The project linking the Irish and French electricity grids was due to pass through the two villages, however Eirgrid say they now plan to lay the cable in agricultural land north of Castlemartyr and south-east of Killeagh following technical assessments and feedback from stakeholders.
The one billion euro plan is a collaboration between Eirgrid and it's French equivalent and has been in the works since 2011.
The undersea link will land at Claycastle Beach in Youghal and will connect to a new converter station in Carrigtwohill.
