Emergency department nurses gather to discuss overcrowding crisis

The Health Minister is due to join the meeting this afternoon.

Nurses from Emergency Departments around the country will gather for a national meeting today to discuss overcrowding.

The Health Minister is due to join the meeting to hear firsthand what the situation is like on the ground for staff and their patients. 

Leo Varadker recently announced 300 extra beds in a bid to alleviate the pressure on hospitals around the country and those are expected to come on stream in the coming weeks. 

Figures from the INMO show that both Cork University and Mercy University Hospital's have seen an increase in the numbers of people on trolleys in the first 9 months of this year in comparison to the same period last year.
