EPA: Cork waste depot a 'national priority site'
A licensed waste depot in Cork City has been classed as a "national priority site" That's according to the Environmental Protection Agency who say they've opened nine compliance investigations into the Country Clean depot at Churchfield Industrial Estate. Refuse trucks were blocked access to the plant yesterday by a blockade of local residents who say they're enduring foul smells, noise pollution and vermin because of the location of waste facilities in the industrial estate. The EPA says following investigations of County Clean this year.... non-compliant odours at off-site locations have been identified and 34 odour complaints have also been made. AUDIO: Speaking to RedFM News Maurice Sheehan says they're halting protest action ahead of a meeting with management at the plant tonight however they have plans in place to escalate their campaign if needed.
