Establishment Of Munster Technological University Hits Stumbling Block

The establishment of the Munster Technological University has hit a stumbling block following an independent review.
Cork Institute of Technology and IT Tralee had sought to merge to create the university, however the plan has now been pushed back by six months amid financial concerns.
An international advisory panel found the bid lacked the administrative, managerial and financial capacity necessary and also raised questions about financial deficits at IT Tralee.
A review carried out by Deloitte also found the merger will cost €14.3 million- over 2.3 million more than originally planned.
The Irish Examiner reports that the Higher Education Authority believes a six-month timeframe is "too ambitious" and should be extended.
