Events being held nationwide to highlight issues with Direct Provision

It's been 15 years since the Direct Provision system for asylum seekers was established. Events are being held across the country to highlight the problems in a system that the Equality Minister Aodhan O’Riordán last year admitted he could not stand over and has pledged to reform. Over 4,000 people are kept in Direct Provision in Ireland, with one in five of those there for more than seven years. Two high profile protests were held in two Cork direct provision centres in the past year by residents who say they feel like they're trapped in limbo awaiting a decision on the citizenship status. These residents at the Kinsale Road Accommodation centre have been telling RedFM News why the system needs to be scrapped. Click the PLAY button to hear.
