Extra tax on alcohol deemed a "disaster"

The National Off-Licence Association says that any extra tax on alcohol would be a "disaster". It comes following reports that the Government is close to agreeing measures which would ban sports sponsorship by alcohol companies. The plans would see the lost revenue replaced either through a special tax on alcohol or exchequer grants. Today the group is launching its pre-budget submission, calling on the Government to save jobs in the sector by reversing the increase in excise duty brought in in the last Budget.
