Taoiseach Enda Kenny will join UK Prime Minister David Cameron and 26 other heads of state and government in Brussels for a two-day summit later today.
The fallout from last week's Brexit result is a top priority on the agenda, however the UK is not expected to formally start proceedings on withdrawing from the union.
A consensus among EU states is that the UK should trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty as soon as possible in order for for negotiations on a future relationship outside the EU to begin.
