Farmers Could Lose Up To 25% Of CAP Payments Under Provisional Deal Agreed Yesterday

EU agriculture ministers are due to sign off on the new Common Agricultural Policy when they meet in Luxembourg next week
It had been proposed to set aside 20 per cent of the budget for eco-schemes, to reduce emissions from farming.
The Irish Farmers' Association says the provisional CAP deal could decimate some farming sectors.
Speaking from Brussels, IFA president Tim Cullinan says it's essential the Minister gets flexibility for Irish farmers before the deal is signed next week:
"So I'm not saying here that farmers don't want to be part of helping on climate change. And farmers are already are doing a lot, and are willing to do a lot more into the future. But, the problem we have with this CAP reform is there's not enough money to go around. If farmers are taking on those extra measures, then there needs to be proper funding around that, and they need to get rewarded for doing this work."
