Father and son charged in connection with firing shot at Gardaí

54 year old James Keenan and his 26 year old son Peter of Island View, Rochestown Road appeared before a special sitting of Cork District Court last night

The men were  arrested and charged following an investigation into an incident in which a shot was fired at members of the Cork Armed Support Unit arriving to search their house

Both men were charged with possession of an improvised shotgun and possession of ammunition at Island View, Rochestown Road, Cork on April 29.

And James Keenan was charged with a third offence of reckless discharge of a firearm, at the same address

.

Gardai objected to bail for both men, saying the charges related to an ongoing and  escalating feud between the Keenans and another family in Cork city.

Gardai supported their claim the feud was escalating by revealing they found 20 rounds of live ammunition and 23 petrol bombs at the Keenan house.

They also found an assortment of hand weapons which again they believed indicated that there was a threat to the safety of others if the men got bail.

Judge James McNulty  remanded both men in custody to appear again by video link at Cork District Court on May 6th and he also granted them free legal aid.
