Fencing Erected By Port Of Cork Around Quays Ahead Of Bank Holiday In Effort To Prevent Crowds From Gathering

Cork City Council say the city is open for business and they are welcoming people into town however they are encouraging people to socialise safely

The Port of Cork have fenced off around any berthed commercial vessels, around plant or Port equipment and around cargo stored on the quaysides.

In a statement issued to RedFM News they say there are health and safety risks associated with large public gatherings on the quays and the public are advised not to congregate in this area.

Speaking to RedFM News Conor Mowlds of the Port of Cork says the fencing will remain in place until further notice:

"The sections will remain closed off until further notice, and we will monitor the situation on a regular basis. What we're really concerned about is the general safety to the public, from the perspective that these are operational keys, operating on a 24/7 basis, and it's important that we took these measures to protect the interests of the public in this regard."
