Fines for people crossing the border without a valid reason

Every adult in a car travelling across the border from Northern Ireland without a valid reason will be fined €100
New regulations came into force this morning with on-the-spot fines for breaches of travel restrictions to all visitors to the state.
People given a Covid-19 related fine have 28 days to pay.
Damien McGinnity from Border Communities Against Brexit says the new regime is a direct result of the politicians in Belfast and Dublin failing to work together.
"I think it's an indictment of a lack of political leadership.
"I think it's an indictment of public health officials north and south that they haven't been able to come out and clearly state 'this is how we need to manage this virus' until everyone over 40 or whatever age they decide gets vaccinated.
"How many more people have to die? Over 5,000 dead on the island. 25 dead in New Zealand. Come on - these people are going to have to be held to account over this."
