Fire Causes Extensive Damage To Top Floor Of Former Revenue Commissioners

A fire has caused extensively damaged the seventh floor of the former Revenue Commissioners office block at O'Sullivan's Quay.

Five units of Cork City Fire Service fought the blaze for nearly two hours, before it was brought under control and the building declared safe.

No one was injured in the blaze, and it is understood it may have started when a mattress went on fire.

The seven storey building has been vacant for a number of months, and is believed to be used by some homeless people as a place to sleep.

Gardai say they are continuing to investigate.
