Firefighter injured on the city's northside

The incident happened yesterday evening.

It's being reported today that a firefighter was injured on the Northside of the city last night.

The incident happened shortly after 6 o'clock yesterday evening when it's understood over a dozen youths pelted the firefighter with stones.

He was taken to hospital as a precaution however his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Last week SIPTU raised concerns about the safety of fire crews after a number of similar incidents in the capital and here on Leeside where firefighters were attacked by stone throwing youths as they responded to Halloween blazes at Fairhill and Na Piarsaigh.

Speaking to RedFM News Edward Buckley of Cork Fire Brigade says crews frequently have to deal with attacks like these.
