Fisherman Dies Off Cork Coast
A fisherman died in an accident off the Cork coast last night. The man suffered severe head injuries in an incident on board the trawler, Liberty, which is believed to have been fishing out of Castletownbere. Valentia coastguard contacted the Shannon-based Rescue 115 to attend to the stricken crewman who were some 25 nautical miles south of the Old Head of Kinsale at around 7pm. But the aircraft ran low on fuel due to the extended nature of the incident and the Waterford-based Rescue 117 was tasked - and the Rescue 115 returned to Cork Airport. However, the coastguard crews were informed that the man died just before 8pm. His body was recovered and transferred to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem is expected to take place today.
